It’s that time again – Feria de Malaga!
When is the fair?
Friday 11th August – Sunday 20th August 2017
What is it all about?
If you are currently in Malaga studying for your Trinity CertTESOL course, then you need to be prepared for this 9-day Spanish street party! The magnificent festivities attracting millions of visitors begin on Friday the 11th August. The main attraction is at midnight with a concert at La Malagueta beach where there will also be a spectacular firework display. Thousands will gather for this Magical show! Hundreds of people take to the streets of the city’s historic centre to party into the early hours. During this traditional Andalusian festival the women will be dressed from head to toe in flamenco dresses with flowers in their hair and they will be dancing the traditional dance of Andalusia called Sevillanas.
Where can I see the fair?
There are two main locations to experience this colourful festival. The day fair is located in Malaga historic centre around the main shopping street Marques de Larios and Plaza Constitution which is adorned with coloured paper lanterns. This starts at around midday and officially finishes at 7pm.
The night fair is then at Malaga Feria ground (near the Palacio de Congresos building) at a purpose built fairground – but kid me not, this is no traditional fair! You will be greeted by traditional horse exhibitions, dodgems, ferris wheels, music and various stalls known as ‘casetas’ offering trinkets, entertainment and refreshments. Here there will also be a stage for live concerts.
What can I do at the fair?
Food: There will be many food tents where you can enjoy some delicious Andalusian cuisine.
Museums: All of the museums will be open during the Malaga fair.
Live Music: There will be live music at many of the squares of Malaga centre during the afternoons.
Music Concert: Located at the Feria ground (near the Palacio de Congresos building).

How do I get to the fair?
You can get to the main fairground easily by bus or train. The services are doubled during the festivities. The bus can be taken from Alameda Principal in the city centre (Daytime bus lines are: 4, 19, and bus F runs all night). The bus costs €1.50. The train can be taken to Victoria Kent and costs €170, it is then just a 10 minute walk from here (follow the crowds).
